November 2019 marks National Family Caregivers Month, and this year’s theme is one that will resonate with many caregivers: “Caregiving Around the Clock.” This month of awareness and celebration will shine a light on caregiving, and bring challenges family members face to the forefront of senior care discussions. What is National Family Caregivers Month?
2019 marks the 25th year of this national recognition month for family caregivers. The Caregiver Action Network works to boost awareness by providing materials to those who request them, including nursing homes, assisted living facilities, pharmacies, and other businesses that are committed to caregiver support.
National Family Caregivers Month was established to accomplish the following goals:
- Raise awareness of the physical, mental, emotional, and financial issues family caregivers can face.
- Provide education and other resources to family caregivers who may be struggling with their own self-care
- Celebrate family caregivers’ efforts to provide the best care for their loved ones.
- Increase and improve the support for caregivers who need it.
Many caregivers work around the clock, caring for their own children, while also checking in on their family member during the workday. With having to juggle their own family responsibilities, caregivers also help with their loved one’s medications, personal hygiene, feeding, and remaining responsive to any medical needs or emergencies.
